This medieval lakeside town is a popular destination for guests from all over Europe and is part of the Zell am See - Kaprun ski area. In the heart of winter the lake often freezes over enabling you to walk across to the village of Thumersbach opposite.
Much of the centre of Zell am See is pedestrianised allowing you to easily work your way around the many apres ski bars and discos or just participate in some ‘retail therapy' in the many shops availalbe.

All levels of skiers are well catered for in this resort


Access to the skiing in Zell am See is at three levels via the centrally located City Xpress gondola, the Schmitten and Sonnenalm cable cars and gondolas half-way up the Schmittenhöhe, easily reachable by ski bus, or the Areitbahn in Schüttdorf, the neighbouring suburb. With 130km of piste available on your lift pass, all levels of skiers are well catered for here in Zell am See, Kaprun and the snow-sure slopes of the mighty Kitzsteinhorn reaching over 3000m.
