Without a doubt the resort of Zermatt is world class, with extensive skiing on the Swiss side and also into Cervinia, Italy, either by cable car (the highest in Europe) rising to over 4000 m or high altitude T-bars. No matter where you are on the slopes the majestic Matterhorn can be seen. There is a choice of access to the mountain, either by the Sunnegga funicular, the Matterhorn Glacier express gondolas or the slower but more traditional Gornergrat mountain railway. Eating on the mountain is a treat but it is advisable to book your table in advance, especially at the more popular venues such as Chez Vroni, Findlerhof and Blatten to mention but a few. The traditional village is traffic free except for electric vehicles and boasts an eclectic choice of restaurants and designer shops, including some amazing chocolate shops!

Sophisticated hotel bars and more lively venues for the younger crowd

Zermatt is known to have the world's best mountain restaurants, from cosy huts for a well-deserved drink, to the perfect place for a full-on leisurely lunch of Swiss specialities.
The pedestrianized village is completely car-free. The only transport available is the electric shuttle buggies taking you from one end of Zermatt to the other. On the main street in Zermatt there is a vast range of shops, from clothing and jewellery boutiques, to food and wine stores. The night life is varied, providing something for everyone, with a mix of sophisticated hotel bars and more lively venues for the younger crowd.
